Francisco Ruiz del Porto

Born in Havana, Cuba, Francisco Ruiz del Porto initiates his artistic education at the prestigious Academia de Bellas Artes San Alejandro. He worked in his native city where he explored techniques of printmaking and painting. Ruiz del Porto moved to Spain in 1968 and displayed his work in various artistic exhibits, where he gained enormous exposure and respect among Madrid and Barcelona’s most renowned artists.
His works are defined as figurative abstractions. His powerful expressions engage the imagination and his expert craftsmanship creates works of amazing depth and sensuality.

Ruiz del Porto named his collections “Fetishes” from the French word “fetiche”, meaning object or idol of cult, to whom supernatural powers are attributed, especially in primitive cultures. The artist has given his work this name due to its idealistic subject matter, which is primarily concerned with the images of family, religion and nature. As a result, his art creates a strong and immediate impact with immense expressive energy. Ruiz del Porto’s paintings combine an appealing use of color with the possibilities of constructing diverse stories. His paintings however, are intense X-rays of our daily lives where we balance survival and pleasure. He uses every aesthetic alternative, where his more defined personages and his most abstract ones interact with originality and force, in what could be best described as contemporary scenarios.
